He belonged to a prosperous Jain family that earned its wealth through the trade of gold, silver, precious stones, brocade, textiles, and other luxury goods.

Instead of building one large mansion, Guman Chand Patwa decided to construct five separate havelis, one for each of his five sons. The construction continued for nearly 50 years, with each haveli featuring its own distinctive design while maintaining a harmonious architectural style.

The Patwa family became one of the wealthiest merchant families in Rajasthan, and their lavish lifestyle is reflected in every detail of these magnificent mansions.

Remarkable Architecture

Patwon Ki Haveli is considered one of the finest examples of Rajput and Jain architecture. Built entirely from Jaisalmer's famous golden-yellow sandstone, the haveli glows beautifully under the sunlight, earning the city its nickname—the Golden City.
